Smooths out payment for an item, rather than pay it all upfront which you may not be able to do, or be able to do but be left with little left. Alternatively if you can easily afford to pay for it, you can continue to earn interest on your savings instead of paying for it in one go.
Unlike a credit card where you buy an item and may have to pay for it 3 or 5 weeks later (depending on when you bought it in your cards cycle), Afterpay is always fixed which certainly makes things easier.
I bought something I could easily afford on it, using a credit card, and am happy to pay for it over 2 credit card payments (instead of 1). For me it's just a version of smoothing.
