You are correct. It is a bit murky between the pure credit cards and charge cards. There are of course exceptions but basically the AMEX only charges interest if you are over due by a certain number of days plus a late fee. No interest is charged if you pay on time. With credit cards they charge interest from day 1 again with some exceptions depending on your plan and contract.
