If the Athena was transferred as part of the WPL deal that arrangement may only have been for the previous appraisal period and that's finished, makes sense as the terms of the WPL deal were struck early 2016.

Leaving that aside, the pieces of the puzzle are now starting to fall into place.
This is great news we have a contract for a top drill ship at a substantially reduced rate to the Athena.
The Stena DrillMAX is a great bit of kit and has also had experience in drilling these waters with similar structures having been in operation off Ghana previously.

The potential upside to the next phase in appraisal is huge IMO.
This could substantially increase reserves and recovery through connectivity, bring on the official DOC, finalise the plans towards FID and kick off development.
The JV also have future options on this vessel this is a great move IMO.
Yes the PE resolution is important but let's not forget the big picture.
Wonder if TOTAL were consulted before this contract was signed.
