Even though i see them as morally bankrupt ambulance chasers creating work for themselves, and i think its a long shot for them to win, i dont actually see any disadvantage at the individual level in signing up. Athough I wonder if there is a high sign-up rate they might claim they have some legitimacy, but in a court of law i expect it shouldn't matter.

Or think of it this way, if not many sign up and they do get a settlement, the instigators will get a bigger chunk of that settlement (if its a raw amount, and not per no. of shares held by claimants)

Would be happy to hear someone with a more informed opinion on the legalities of these things comment.

Thanks Bug - I got the email and am unsure of next steps. I agree with your assessment that there appears to be no disadvantage for an individual to sign up. But you know what they say about free lunches... And I'm no lawyer (maybe a bush one).
