They are new to prawn farming, but have hired people from the industry and are now into their second year. They say that some of their salmon farming expertise can be transferred into prawns. Feed, selective breeding (intial brood stock have been wild caught), technology with monitoring feed consumption, harvesting then processing and packaging are all skills already in the business.
Being farmed onshore should be easier too but there will always be disease fears and pricing that are typical farming risks.
I don't think there's the level of disclosure that would answer the mainland China question but you'd have to think there's been a fair chunk of the export fish going there.
My concern there is not about sales to China but those tons finding a home back here which could depress local prices a bit. Not material though imo.
