This provides all the more compelling narrative for IRD, the question remains which party with balance sheet is prepared to come in and facilitate the next stage of development. I think Sentient has put all the capital they intended to and maybe some more and now they would be logically seeking an accretive exit being private equity. Without a balance sheet (even SA Govt) the asset may remain stranded.
It baffles me why the SA Govt hasn’t accelerated the magnetite strategy, on current trajectory we are nowhere near the $10bn investment needed by 2022.
interestingly IRD have just provided a solution to the water issue with the 2 desalination options presented at the AGM - they have the end to end solution here, plus abit more, all it needs is the capital and some determination now
