To simplify mightily, QBE raised premiums 9.7% and grew the overall business 20%. ROE of 11.9%. Last HY insurance loss of ($US584) becomes a profit of $US674 - a stellar turnaround of $US1258m.
It made a very modest 0.4% on invested assets, the best possible on an investment portfolio almost entirely in fixed interest. Its recovery was always dependent on premium increases, which it has done with steely determination while retaining customers.
The dividend of 11Ac will go down a treat.
