Hi all, new here. I've owned FDV for a few years now. Background in online classifieds for years in Australia and Asia, and I've worked with Shaun D. He's a tough guy but a good operator. I've consulted to funds in the US that were scouting for online classified assets some years back so I might be able top give some input.
I'm of the opinion this this is a 3-5 year hold. The business model is solid, based on rolling out what worked in Australia 10+ years ago and what worked to some degree in Asia more recently. Given the complexity of the markets FDV are in, investors will ignore it until they can't, once FDV gets onto an index it will change.
My holding is in a locked box for years, if it was at $3 next year there is no way I would sell. To expect it to return like REA is unreasonable, but I'm looking for 5-10x in a 3 to 5 year time frame.
@Sojourner I'm not so keen on your NZM holding, print and radio is a sinking ship, and the lesson from emerged markets is that online classified is a winner take all business, a number 2 player can't make any money. Reminds me of Fairfax a lot. So yes, trade it, but I wouldn't put it in a locked box.
