They set performance targets...some companies do for things like reducing lost days due to injury, safety records, running a mill to capacity. Clifford got some last year...it is obscene. Each and every bonus must be over ridden by overall share performance. I've written before, that bonuses based on a single performance target are too compartmentalized to be warranted at all, the more so when the market cap has been destroyed to the tune of $400 million.
