Each of us will have their own perception of what constitutes a deep mine.
Kalgoorlie's Superpit is about 600 metres deep as an open cut, however with historical underground workings 1,200 metres below the surface at the site. Bear in mind these 1200 metre workings are not modern, and probably earlier than 1970. Technology has improved since then.
Irrespective of depth, grade is always king, and we have grades others ought to be jealous of!
