An investor (retiree or otherwise) should not have to pay tax twice on profits from a company they hold shares in - franking credits are to ensure that this does not happen. And retirees should not be shortchanged compared to all other investors.
If Labor lost votes because of its attack on retiree investors, then that was well-deserved.
