Results pretty close to expectations with 2nd half fairly even compared to1st half after a very strong 2023.
Not a bad result in what is challenging conditions.
Most areas appear to have met consensus with solid growth and the continued strong capital position is good.
Not surprised at the froth being blown off the top of the SP due to the headline numbers (but of course there will be those who base all financial analysis on short term highs .)
Think the banks have generally been overbought so will be interesting from here. Hard to see the next major catalyst for growth (or decline) until we get a clearer picture on exactly what the RBA will do.
The market of course regularly changes sentiment and funds will move to newest sector of favour and banks have a had a good run, so that could come into play after this results period............(particularly if a couple of other sectors get a boost from a change of direction in the US.)
Has been a pretty good few years and many will have made good money, which surely is what most of us are talking about, but clearly not all!!
Would expect performance to remain fairly flat until we get some sort of catalyst for change in our economy.
Just some broad brush opinions, no advice intended.
