This is a perennial problem with any buyback, it's not unique to KAR. A buyback reduces the float and (theoretically but not always) pushes the share price up. This then brings the share-price based KPI's into play.
If you want dividends over buybacks then complain away, but anyone doing so needs to remember they are fundamentally complaining about the share price going up.
