Every one is talking hydrogen at the moment .
Pundits saying that the cost of electrolysis can come down by 80% with new technology ..

I must be missing something .
When you burn H2 it combines with another gas O2 to form a liquid H2O ( isn't Nature wonderful ) releasing energy .
Electrolysis essentially reverses that reaction so the energy to drive the Electrolysis will be at least as much as was released by the burning of the H2.

Certainly scale will reduce the cost of electrolysis but getting the cost down by 80% seems a stretch to me and would rely on very low , preferably negative energy costs to reach that level .

However we should never underestimate human ingenuity , we are Clever Little Monkeys .
