Luckily the tool is stuck right down the bottom of the hole. If they did have to sidetrack, they'd likely kick of above the reservoir and re-drill the pay zone. Now that they know there is gas down there, they may even cut some core.
Adds a bit to the cost, but if they are really keen on testing, then there's not much they can do. They would really want to obtain pressure measurements throughout the entire section to work out whether the whole interval is in communication or whether the sand units are isolated from one another. It will also tell them if they have intersected the gas-water contact.
