OMH has been very quiet on what they plan to do with OMQ, its now been closed for nearly two years.
The price of power has come down in China, so the question is do they plan to re-open OMQ?
One of the furnaces had been upgraded to 25.5MVA.
I did make the suggestion to management to move the furnaces to Sarawak, they would make ideal furnaces for producing more Si met, as one furnace is 16MVA and the other 25.5MVA. Would also be good for specialty Mn alloys like low carbon FeMn.
No reply to my enquiry. Surely it makes sense to move them to Sarawak rather than mothballing them in China. Whilst it will cost to move them, however since all equipment comes from China then I see this as a sensible plan. Even if the furnaces are rotated for when maintenance is required.
