I haven’t tended to focus P/E when looking at HLI’s value.
The market has been worried about the mortgage cliff since at least Feb 2023 when some analysts recommended selling HLI at $2.60 per share. The mortgage cliff hasn’t eventuated and has been more of a gentle downhill ‘ramp’ than a cliff.
One of the things I like about HLI is that it doesn’t get a lot of press and when it does it is often of the kind I just mentioned - completely wrong. I’ve found HLI to be mispriced often and have been a buyer over last couple of years from $2.10 through to $4.20, when opportunities have presented.
Sorry I can’t comment more on P/E but it’s not really something I pay attention to with HLI.
