I'm hoping to get some feedback on some of the information that Tesla released on Battery Day. According to a recent * article titled "Battery Day: Tesla confirms nickel as metal of choice" the company plans to use raw nickel powder, some of it from recycling, instead of using intermediate battery-grade nickel in metal sulphate form. “We can eliminate billions in battery-grade nickel intermediate production, it is not needed at all, and we can also use that same process to directly consume nickel powder from recycling EV and electric grid batteries,” said Drew Baglino, Tesla’s Senior Vice-President, Power Train Development. Does that mean that demand for Nickel sulphate which PM1 will eventually create may not be used in EVs if Tesla is successful in incorporating nickel powder? I tried searching online for further details as to the qualities of nickel powder that may be used for processing, but have been unsuccessful in finding or interpreting any useful information.

The recycled nickel market is not large enough at high enough grade to supply the market, I believe. I don't buy the arguent that going to pure nickel metal at source, then making cathode from that, is efficient.
