Barely 1 week ago, I referred to legislated environmental change, world-wide, as one of several factors that will drive demand for more lithium-ion batteries.
Now, in a typical Labor Government action, the New Zealand Government has banned the issue of new awards of exploration acreage for oil and gas offshore New Zealand, with the Prime Minister saying she "hoped New Zealand’s electricity system would rely completely on renewable energy sources by 2035."

Putting aside the obvious headline-grabbing aspect of the ban, this will do no harm to demand for lithium and other battery metals, since renewable energy typically needs to be stored before usage.
