im a principal engineer for a telecommunications carrier in NZ.
i did electrotechnical engineering as a qualification and initially worked as an electronics repair technician. the industry changed, so i pivoted to telecommunications. been playing with computers since i was 5, had an old apple IIe, and been in pretty much every platform and development since, im what you might call a pathological computer nerd. my role now mostly centers around automation and embedded systems its actually a pretty good application of my skills, little bit of everything in there. but yeah, lots of exposure to data center shit - did my time 5 years on the 24/7 network operations center hahah.
