For 50K they would most likely bankrupt them so it would not just be them forgiving it. If I was in their position I would definitely be inclined to bankrupt anyone defrauding the business to ensure customers were deterred. I believe you stay on the bankruptcy register permanently. o it is a lot uglier plus they can sell what possessions you have etc.
