Beema,
I have tried to stay out of this, as, well I can be difficult.
This is not financial advice, or every 'full service' dude will want my guts for garters.
A quick cut to: if you don't buy through a broker (online very much advised) and have Your holding under Your Own HIN = Holder Identification Number, then you are not recognised as the owner. I am not across the jargon but basically, you bought an interest in the holdings of a third party and the third party is recognised by the ASX listed company and the ASX as the owner.
The HIN is the key bit. If you use an online broker the HIN sort of just happens.
I have been through the alternative and it FHAFL (hurt a lot). No way ever again.
I have learnt, buy only in marketable parcel and only through you own HIN.
Hope this sort of helps.
