The "market" is comprised of the exact same slice of the population that inhabit our daily lives. Have you ever observed how individuals & groups behave when faced with incoming data about anything?

It is the bell curve effect. Most people are happy to be led to their decisions, but believe these decisions are made by themselves & themselves alone. These people, who comprise the vast majority of the market, "sophisticated investors" included, simply cannot see what the road conditions & surrounding traffic mean until the inevitable event is right upon them.
