"...Waislitz says merger and acquisition activity in ASX-listed micro and small caps will accelerate in the second half of the year as tough macroeconomic conditions and geopolitical uncertainties make it hard for some companies to grow organically.

He says the relative cheapness of ASX-listed companies given the current value of the Australian dollar will also make takeover bids by foreign suitors attractive.

“The long forecast return to increased activity in, and focus on, the micro and small caps sector appears to be underway,” Waislitz says.

“There’s been a lot of focus on larger cap companies and it has been harder, for example, for smaller technology companies to raise capital. So I think you will see quite a lot of merger and acquisition activity..."
