Decisions are made based on the facts known at the time and expectations based on those facts- to the extent that the true facts are known- something like that.
The share buyback was made based on how the world looked at the time. The CR is based on what ANZ thinks that it knows now. I do not have a problem with this. I know that my own investing decisions can look pretty poor with hindsight.
One day we may know if the SunBank deal is a good one. I think that Queensland is a growth market for housing and housing finance. If and when the dire global macro is resolved then this deal and holding ANZ could prove to be good investment decisions.
But, without the benefit of hindsight, I do not know this for sure.
