Hmm..I can't disagree with you about the CEO, but will not endorse your personal remarks about him. I'm more interested in the ACCC reaction. We cannot know how they will view this deal, but much of the sentiment against it centres around the prospect of a big bank (ANZ) becoming bigger by swallowing a smaller one (Suncorp), which is seen as a negative, as it reduces competition. However, assume the takeover offer were to have come from Suncorp to buy out ANZ...apparently this scenario is less sinister, as the small guy becomes the predator and the dynamic is suddenly different. Yet, the organic composition of the banking sector remains the same regardless of who takes over whom. Is this too simplistic a view...? It may well be so, but the ACCC will be compelled to consider these arguments. I think the deal has a reasonable chance of getting over the line.The wisdom behind the takeover from a purely financial perspective is an entirely different matter, on which others are more qualified to comment.
