That is exactly what microcap explorers are about, if they were big like BHP etc they would just buyout a winner and progress from there.

In the meantime with limited funds they start by kicking a few rocks around and if they stub their toe on a nugget they move to a maiden drill. It is not known what is below, they can guess by surface samples or prior drilling history if there is any, If hit a full hand they then start to step out looking for more evidence or deeper. Their aim is to hit a major jackpot and move to producing / farm out / or a take over.

Thus they diversify with projects just like investors do in the markets hoping that one major win pays the dividends for the others.
