Whats happening in the nickel market is straight out of the Chinese playbook (via Indonesia) flood the market with cheap product to eliminate your competitors and dominate globally.
You can't expect car or battery manufacturers to invest in nickel projects in Australia or anywhere else when they can get plenty of cheap nickel from Indonesia requiring zero investment so if governments really want to secure their supply chains and limit Chinese distortion/domination of yet another commodity they will have to offer real support and take some risk just like the Chinese do at the mining level or China wins again
