'The Weekly Times' in Victoria today (Wednesday 27 January) has a front page story where United Dairyfarmers of Vic is trying to ramp up pressure on Fonterra, Saputo and Bega for an increase in the farmgate price of milk. Bega is currently paying dairyfarmers in southern Vic $6.40/kg of milk solids and in northern Vic, $6.55/kg.
The three processors declined to comment.. One MP, Roma Britnell (Liberal), a State MP who represents South West Coast around Warrnambool, commented on the good domestic demand from shoppers for dairy products,
The UDV said processors should not hide behind a 'high A$'.
