Re what could be in the tailings - Ivittuut mine produced cryolite and was known as Greenlands "White Gold". If cryolite was "White Gold", what else was there that might have just gone to tailings and not worth shipping from Greenland?

On a side note for history buffs: This is the mine that helped win World War II with cryolite supplying the American factories pumping out Aluminium framed aircraft. Had Americans based at the mine and apparently Captured Nazis digging it up.

White Gold and now a Strategic War Time Mineral... So what was in the tailings that was not white gold, or a strategic war mineral not worth shipping out? the answer might just be what this mine originally started out as in 1854... A Galena (Lead) mine.

So for 130 years cryolite was mined from a lead mine. Tailings used to support the sea wall have been leaching out lead into the ocean according to scientific reporting. There is 130 years of tailings sitting on the ground. Lead is selling for around $2500AUD a ton and I can't currently find any reference to lead being exported from Ivittuut. This also does not include the potential that Quartz was located within the first 130 years of mining and discarded. Again, I can't currently find any reference to Quartz being exported from Ivittuut.

DYOR and this is not financial advice: My risk tolerance is 100/1 at the TAB and I'm known to be wrong all the time, but I love history.
