Apple SOS features are not the same as Zoleo. Might work for a one-off, but you ultimately want something with more features. The new Garmin product is more of a concern IMO.


As for the 5G piece, it's very interesting. Note that it still requires IoT devices that will connect to LEO satellite networks. These need to be rolled out as part of an infra build, or sold to whoever owns the phone. Likely the former, so that the phone can connect directly without any planning.
I note that Telstra were testing the last pieces of 5G back when I worked there, something like 5+ years ago. It's still not available in many areas (certainly not regional)

Certainly a threat, but a big gap between now and when that's available.
