As I thought further about this development, it struck me that in the slide at the presentation that showed the radio-labelled AD-214 concentrated in the liver, the subject was a mouse. I assume, of course, that this is also happening in humans but my point is that I was first attracted to this company because of slides that were said to show dramatic improvement to the lungs of bleomycin affected mice. Those slide looked so good to my inexpert eye that I bought in here in the low 30c. That, of course, was AD-114, which molecule obviously was getting to the lungs of mice.
I was disappointed in 2018 when AD-114 was dropped in favour of a formulation that was hoped to have a longer dosage interval. I was unpersuaded that there would be any problem with people who were suffering from an incurable, progressive and fatal disease giving themselves injections on a fairly regular basis. I know diabetics who inject themselves several times a day. It seemed unfortunate that this would slow down the potential commercialisation and resultant boost to share values. As we all know, we slowly sank a long way from the 30c range. It seemed a shame, also, for the IPF sufferers who would die before this drug became available: the median survival is 3 years 8 months from diagnosis.
I noticed at the presentation that one questioner asked about the particle size required to penetrate deep into the lungs and asking if the inhalable version would remove the Fc portion. I seems to me now that this was a very well-informed (and somewhat arch) question. Dr Boreham said that would change the molecule and 1AD would not want to go back and start again.
I now wonder even more about the wisdom of trying to tweak AD-114 instead of getting it tested and approved and out there saving lives and making money.
