A report from Lonrho Mining has stated that the company has unearthed a stunning 53.25 carat diamond from their Lulo project which is located in Angola.
This is the largest gem quality diamond that has been recovered by the company since they began mining diamond bearing deposited gravel from its thick media separation factory this year. This large diamond is now twice the size of their previous record holder, a 22.25 carat diamond that was discovered during the majority sampling that was conducted about one year ago this month.
Managing director Miles Kennedy stated that while the diamond was founded from the alluvial gravels, it had to have come from a nearby Kimberlite pipe source. While it seems that Mr. Kennedy was quite impressed with the companies finding, overall, they are going to be searching for more diamonds of this size and quality as they continue to search though the site’s area for the next 12 to 18 months.
So far the site has produced for Lonrho 102 diamonds from their most recent bulk sampling which had a total combined carat weight of 173.85 which was from about 340 meters of alluvial gravels.
