Worth noting that there have been plenty of major discoveries after stuck string, casing tools etc that neccessitated sidetracks. Zapato's failure had nothing to do with needing to sidetrack. They never found/misinterpreted the predicted reservoir.

If the reservoir doesn't exist you can drill it perfectly 100 times without sidetracks and it's still not going to be there.
