"A CEO is judged ultimately by performance of share price"
I personally judge the CEO's perfomance on the company's balance sheet, its sales revenue, NPAT, financial reserves, dividends and the steps taken to ensure future competiveness through marketing and R&D and aquisitions. The share price is affected by a lot of other factors like market sentiment and analyst recommendations. A company like Honeywell for instance scores remarkably well on the things I just mentioned relative to its peers, and yet its share price has lagged despite this out performance. If WP does succeed in turning the financial fortunes of the company around, he will certainly have earned his pay even if the share price takes a while to recover.
