There is already a super profits tax on offshore oil & gas. Its called the PRRT (petroleum resource rent tax) and is 40% tax on top of the 30% company tax.
Govt a few years ago tried to bring in a similar super profits tax on mining called MRRT and it got lobbied out due to being retrospective in nature.
