Look at figure 1 and wording on page 2 it's all there if you don't understand the English properly I can't help you.

There is a blue line of 100sq km that marks the farm in. If they chose to fund 40% of the second well they would have farmed into the red 253km area. So at the moment they fulfilled the 100sq km farm in to where the actual 2nd and 3rd well's are going to happen now and are not part of the larger 253km area
