A point to consider is if you have SMN shares outside your super, you may finish up with a huge capital gains debt when you eventually sell. A few months ago, my SMSF bought the SMN shares I had in my own name & added them to those already owned by my SMSF. To raise the necessary funds, in my super fund, I bought some listed investment shares from my super fund which enabled the proceeds in the super fund to buy my SMN shares. The listed investment shares pay franked dividends & they are not likely to create a large capital gain that would cause a problem. I would not consider selling any of them anyway.

The super fund capital gains will be tax free & I have eliminated the risk of having a large capital gain in my own name which would have been very costly with capital gains tax.
