Most african communities have very communal/socialist/collective/famililal/tribal mentalities-cultures, and they tend to see western mining companies not as investors coming with capital but as predators coming to steal their own wealth and national resources and exploit their cheap labor. The only way to change this is not by increasing salaries and living under security siege from the communities around (like most western companies do in africa), but through being open, engaging with communiqites and investing in the future of their children / education / health. Thats the best way to prove to them that free markets and capitalism are in their best interests, not just the interest of a few workers with salary/job.

from what I observed it looks positive indeed and I am happy with our management. I totally agree with your above comment about them engaging. Hopefully we become the new generation that will bring a change.
