The board have 2 options. They can invest their cash in Chinese A shares for the fund OR they can invest their cash to buyback their own stock (which represents those exact shares at a 30% discount).

If they are acting for shareholders they chose option 2. If they are acting for AMP they choose option 2.
Its that simple.
