WalMart reported strong sales in the US last night and its SP has surged.
Analysts said it was one of the few retailers big enough to take on Amazon and win. From what I read, it recently bought online retailer JD.com and online sales have surged.
Harvey Norman in Australia is in the same league as WalMart and can create a cash war chest , if it chooses, from selling and leasing back some of its vast property portfolio.
Gerry loves a fight and I reckon he would want his legacy at HVN to be all about beating Amazon. Sometimes you need to understand the animal and understand how it reacts to threats. Gerry is an old warrior and is not afraid of any retailer on the planet. So he is going to fight Amazon probably to the death. And do not forget the franchisees who will also fight to the death, as in many instances their entire personal wealth is in their HVN franchise.
