As of yesterday afternoon, the extremely important Trans Australian Railway was flooded near Wirrappa, 150 kilometres by rail west of Port Augusta:

Further west, there was more extensive damage between Coondambo (South Australia, 273.5 km from Pt Augusta by rail) and Lyons (473km from PA, and still in South Austrralia). At least three (possibly small) culverts were washed out:

Yesterday a tamping machine travelled from Kalgoorlie WA to assist with repairs. While the Australian Rail Track Corporation had allegedly originally hoped to reopen the line by Australia Day, 26 January 2022, I doubt this will occur.

LAU sends many railable containers from Melbourne each week (and perhaps from Brisbane, Sydney or Adelaide) to Perth.

Rail has a 57 per cent market share of all freight from 'eastern states' to Mr McClown's hermit state. This share may have risen as coastal shipping using foreign-flagged ships and crews has thankfully been decimated by COVID-19.

It can be three times as expensive as rail to send containers across the Nullarbor by truck, so it's most important the Port Augusta - Kalgoorlie line reopens as quickly as possible.

The Tarcoola - Alice Springs line - Darwin line is also affected because of the TAR flooding. This is operated by One Rail Australia that has been sold to listed AZJ.
