The westbound train I referred to above turned out to only have steel loading, so it went to Whyalla in South Australia, not across the Nullarbor to Perth.
However the first westbound train, designated 1MP5, departed Port Augusta SA at around 1230 ASDT.
There are speed restrictions on the newly laid track (i.e. installed in the areas previously affected by flooding) which is normal on railways until the track 'settles in'.
This will slow the progress of trains on a minority of the Trans Australia Railway but if everything goes OK, this train should arrive at Kewdale (Perth WA) on late Wednesday morning, 16 February. So by Saturday 19, products unloaded from it should be with supermarkets, wholesalers or smaller retailers.
