I was interested to see listed on the potential health issues Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy. My grandson was born 3 months ago and had no heartbeat and wasn't breathing, they performed CPR and after a minute and a half his heart started beating, they intubated him and he went to the critical care ward and the doctors could not do much more but said that they could 'chill' his body to slow down his brain from injury, much as they do when kids are rescued from drownings. All these methods are what is available. The good news is that after a day in the critical care ward, he improved a lot and now at 3 months old, is meeting all his milestones and doesn't appear to have any permanent impairment. The statistics are that 23% of neonatal deaths around the ward are caused by what could have happened to him, and there is no medication they can give. This would be a gamechanger if it can help these babies from becoming impaired.
