Not sure I really get the gist of your post. If u are saying that if these professionals designs a dud product , their professional reputations do not take a severe hit , you are deluded. There is no great conspiracy in science and medicine, It is a not a cosy tent where they all sit around and sing kumbaya.
It's a fiercely competitive environment where your competitors cannot wait for your missteps or mistakes. Rest assured , if you stuff up, you would not be a podium speaker the next year. And in the age of googling, where consumers/patients, have all these information on their fingertips, the stakes is raised even higher.
