Until the merger either goes through, or is abandoned, then why on earth do you think it would stop being discussed.
If management knew how to dot an I or cross a T then we would not be in this 'heated' discussion anyway.
The reputational damage has been caused internally, just look at the clarifications management have had to make for incorrectly filled bidder/target statements.
