Frugl it would seem is using Coles and Woolworths to gather consumer data but has no commercial arrangement in place with either of these dominant retail giants.
It would seem none of this data is being used with the very clients it is being extracted from???
They are supplying free data analytics for Metcash but have no product/pricing info for IGA stores on the Frugl app.
There is no data for Aldi stores on the Frugl app.
Coles and Woolworths both have desktop access to detailed websites listing products/specials/pricing.
Where is the Frugl equivalent?
Market share of grocery retailers in Australia 2021
Woolworths 37.4%
Coles 28,4%
Aldi 10.5%
IGA 7%
Other 16.7%
So from my understanding, they are using the major grocery chains product/pricing via Frugl to supply free data to Metcash which has 7% of the market.
The consumer is getting a free app using Woolworths/Coles but no Aldi, IGA, Foodland etc data.
Not sure where all this is heading.
Woolworths and Coles appear to be not on board re using Frugl data.
Aldi/IGA /Foodland pricing data is not on the app - so the consumer is only getting to the 2 majors
There are no other major retail products groups on the app such as liquor.
There is no desktop access
It would also seem access to funds for any serious developments is limited.
Is this all heading down the same path as previous attempts to commercialise a business idea?
IMO
