I went to a sports startup event recently and there are 9 categories that startups are targeting:
1. Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (soon to come?)
2. Player performance - Catapult
3. Fan Engagement - Catapult (just started..)
4. Media - Catapult (just started..)
5. Smart Stadiums - Catapult
6. Esports/Fantasy Sports (Soon to come?)
7. Wearables - Catapult
8. Data analytics - Catapult
9. Player health and safety - Catapult
How many of the above do you all think is covered by Catapult already? I think that Catapult has covered 7 of the above categories. But guess what? How many startups can overtake Catapult? Catapult has a first-mover advantage in my opinion and will continue to lead..they just need to cover the other 2 categories and they'll have the full suite..LOL
Having said that, I prefer that they just continue to dominate in the categories they are in already and when they have spare cash, then diversify into others. I think it will all be a natural progression anyways as they continue to invest in artificial intelligence to come up with superb analytics.
