I would be very surprised if these batteries only did 1,000 cycles. that's just three years and I'm sure warrantee will be far longer than that. The reason for failure is usually fatigue of the anode I think. They can use a Gel and university tests and other tests now exceed 100,000 cycles with no loss of capacity.
maybe in years to come we will drive our old EV in for a update and get a new body dropped on that day and keep the same batteries for several cars over a 20 year period?
