From memory on previous announcements they had problems with gadolinium in that it was not leaving the body after use but was rather left residing inside it, namely the brain area. Raised by surgeons but not yet acted upon by the FDA, not enough evidence base proof it would seem. When they built smaller portable MRI units that can be mobile and moved into wards they had a problem due to the low output in Tesla’s of these machines which meant they needed stronger doses of gadolinium to get the same results as the really big machines, something they are not now keen to do, so the interest was to replace it with iron oxide as a replacement agent.It was proved up by a university to work and did not require those heavy doses due to it being far more sensitive magnetic fields. I can only guess that referral in that presentation is towards these new portable machines.
Mind you if you were going for a scan on the big machines and they wanted to pump gadolinium into you and you heard it was a suspect item would you allow them to proceed. No thanks use the other stuff please.
